Provost Search Update

February 5, 2021

Campus Community:

As we begin the search for a new provost, I'm pleased to share that Amy Petersen, Chair of the Faculty and Kent Johnson, Dean of Continuing Education and Special Programs, have agreed to serve as co-chairs of the search committee. Amy and Kent both bring rich and varied experience to the process. The full committee will be finalized next week. It is our intent to complete the search this semester so that we can have the provost in place before the beginning of the next academic year.

Helping the institution with the process will be the firm of AGB Search. Founded by the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges, AGB Search works exclusively within higher education in helping to fill leadership positions. We are fortunate the search consultants have previous experience with UNI which will help in recruiting candidates.

I have asked the search firm and co-chairs to gather feedback from campus on the characteristics and skills we should be looking for in the next provost. This feedback will inform the advertising and recruitment process. To that end, the campus community is invited to a listening session next week. Simply follow one of the links below to register for a listening session:

Wednesday, February 10
Noon - 1:00 pm - reserved for faculty
1:00 pm - 2:00 pm - reserved for staff and administration
3:00 pm - 4:00 pm - open forum for campus, including students
4:00 pm - 5:00 pm - reserved for faculty

In addition, a survey will be mailed to all faculty, staff and students next Wednesday, February 10 with a link where additional feedback about characteristics and skills can also be provided.

Thank you for your input into filling this important position at UNI.
